John is a freelance web developer. Most of his time is spent in delivering solutions as contractor to web developer organizations. John's professional home page allows viewers to download presentations about his previous projects.
One day John found an interesting inquiry on his messenger. It was his friend Bill doing a project in Singapore. John and Bill used to work together in a web developer company for many years.
Bill told John that his project was in the detailed planning stage soon and that a second web developer would have to join the project team. John was finishing his current engagement and was able to confirm that he will be available as remote online web developer.
The initial project meetings required the entire project team in Singapore. John took a flight into Changi Singapore airport on a Saturday. The plane landed at about 2pm and John decided to drop by duty free shopping area for some red wine.
On reaching the hotel and checking in, John decided to take a walk along Orchard Road, where there are many shops and lots of nice people. It was about 4pm and John thought there was lots time to relax. Though Bill emailed that he would call John Sunday about the meeting, he called about 5pm to invite John for family dinner. Bill’s family was in Ang Mo Kio Ave 6 across the Yio Chu Kang MRT station.
It wasn’t John’s first time in Singapore and he took the MRT from Orchard road into YCK MRT station. A short walk and John was in Bill’s flat. The view from Bill’s flat was nice, there was a school nearby and public swimming pool where they all used to spend weekends together.
Bill’s wife is from Philippines and she prepared a popular dish called “adobo” chicken and pork. Dinner had an interesting blend of adobo, mashed potatoes, red wine, chocolate cake, brandy and coffee.
Returning to the hotel about 10 p.m., John opened the window curtains and saw the harbor view at night. John turned on his laptop and connected to the hotels WiFi network. John saw nothing urgent on the email. There was always time for blogging.
Sunday was spent preparing a presentation on the solution’s proposed architecture. There was little doubt that a virtualization scheme would be the best since there was little available space in the existing server room. The rest of the week was both tiring and challenging as the team reviewed customer requirements and drafted design documents.
